Rev. Leon Carmical

Leon was born December 21, 1941 near Warren, Arkansas to Patrick and Beatrice Carmical. He grew up in the Cross Roads Community where his family attended the Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church. He was saved at the age of 11 during revival at their home church with Bro. A. D. Livingston as evangelist. Bro. L. B. Mosely, was pastor for all of his childhood and performed the baptismal service.  He attended the Banks public schools at Banks, Arkansas and graduated in 1959 as salutatorian. He entered Central Baptist College in the fall of 1959 and received an Associate of Arts degree in the spring of 1961. He surrendered to the ministry while attending State Teachers College in 1961 and re-entered Central Baptist College in the spring semester of 1962 graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible degree. He later did work toward a Masters Degree with the Wayland Baptist University in Texas. 

August 25, 1962, Bro. Carmical married Sandra Lynn Nelson from McNeil, Arkansas. The Lord blessed their union with three children, Jennielea Haynes, Patrick Carmical, and Christopher Carmical and accepted into their family Evgeny Kriger from Kazakstan. Between the four they have six grandchildren. Sandra has played a very important part in him ministry, for which he gives her much credit. 

Bro. Carmical has pastored the East Boswell Baptist Church, Batesville, AK, Immanuel Baptist Church, Beebe, AK, Park Avenue Baptist Church, Searcy, AK, Lebanon Baptist Church, Laurel, MS, Berean Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, First Baptist Church, Gurdon, AK, Southwest Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX, Parkview Baptist Church, Laurel, MS, Midway First Baptist Church, Sumrall, MS, and presently Calhoun First Baptist Church, Laurel, MS.

He has served on various local, state and national associational committees. He has been chairman of most of those on which he has served. He has served as the moderator of all of the local Associations in which he pastored. He has also been privileged to serve as Vice President of the BMA of America for six different terms and President of the BMA of America for two terms. 

He has preached many revivals throughout the Baptist Missionary Association of America, organized tours to the Middle East and preached revivals in Honduras. He has led in many groups doing medical mission work in the country of Honduras. 

Bro. Carmical has been a fruitful ministry for which he gives glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Pastor Emeritus

Rev. Harold Holifield

Harold was born September 4, 1926 to Abb and Pearl Holifield. He attended Soso high school until in the 11th.grade and later went into the army, after training he spent time in Japan. Bro. Holifield was saved at Spring Hill Baptist Church.  Harold and Ann were married April 17,1948, by Bro. Carl Moss pastor of Spring Hill. Ann was born to Grover and Vena Graham.

The Lord blessed their union with two children, four grand children, and five great grand children. Charles is the oldest, he married Kathy Murray. He is a deacon, treasurer, teacher, and music director at Old Antioch at Gitano. Kathy teaches school at South Jones. They have two daughters, Kristen is married to Darrell Martin, and she is an attorney, their daughter is Audrey. Kelly Charles and Kathy’s youngest, has a daughter, Sarah and a son Levi, And they live in Starkville. Pat is married to Rev. Sidney Davis, and they with Ms. Betty Turnbow operate the Miss Baptist Children’s Home. They have two sons, the oldest is Rev. Danny Davis, he is married to Jennifer Donahoo, Danny pastors Mt. Olive Baptist at Meridian and Jennifer teaches music in the meridian School system, they have a son Connor and a daughter Anna. David is single and does the grounds upkeep at the children’s Home. Bro. Holifield surrendered to the ministry the second week in August of 1949.

The churches which the Lord blessed Bro. Holifield to pastor was: Zion at Anguila , Oak Grove at Hattiesburg, Bethel at Wiggins, Forked Oak at Booneville ( twice), Pine Ridge at Laurel (twice) Little Creek at Perkinston , Antioch at Gitano, Interim at Pear Orchard in Jackson, Interim at the Miss. Baptist Children’s Home at Shady Grove, First Baptist at Calhoun. The Holifield’s are very thankful that God gave us opportunity to pastor these good churches. He allowed us to stay at Antioch 24 ½ years, and at Calhoun 11 years, these were the longest times.

In 1969 Bro. Holifield was hired at Jones Junior College to teach, and stayed 20 years. He obtained a M.S. degree from USM.  An associate from Southeastern, and attended Jacksonville Baptist College at Jacksonville, TX.
